Plug Gap Inspection

Caution
-
• To prevent the tip from being damaged, do not adjust the plug gap.
-
• To prevent the tip from being damaged, measure a plug gap using the wire plug gap gauge.
1. Measure the spark plug gap using a wire plug gap gauge.

• If the gap is not within the specification, replace the spark plug.
-
Standard plug gap
-
L3: 1.25-1.35 mm {0.050-0.053 in}
-
AJ (3.0L Duratec): 1.32-1.42 mm {0.052-0.055 in}
Cleaning

Caution
-
• To prevent the tip from being damaged, do not clean using a wire brush.

Note
-
• When cleaning the spark plugs, use gasoline.
Visual Inspection
1. Inspect the following items:
-
• If there is any malfunction, replace the spark plug.
-
- Insulator breakage
-
- Worn out electrode
-
- Damaged gasket
-
- Badly burned insulator (sparking side)
Resistance Inspection
1. Measure the spark plug resistance using a tester as shown in the figure.

• If it is not within the specification, replace the spark plug.

Resistance
-
L3: 3.0-7.5 kilohms [20 °C {68 °F}]
-
AJ (3.0L Duratec): 2.0-20.0 kilohms [25 °C {77 °F}]
