STARTER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)]

Warning

• When repairing the starter motor or working under the hood in the vicinity of the starter motor, be careful of the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid because it is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and is reinstalled after repairing.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the air intake duct and air cleaner component.

3. Drain the engine coolant from the engine cooling system. (See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

4. Disconnect the four bolts and position the thermostat out of the way.

5. Lift up the vehicle.

6. Remove the nuts and position the starter solenoid cable out of the way.

7. Remove the bolt and starter motor.

8. Install in the reverse order of removal.
