WHEEL HUB, STEERING KNUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Removal

Note
• Install a new wheel bearing when the wheel hub is removed.

All vehicles

1. Remove the front disc plate. (See DISC PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2. Remove the locknut.

3. Remove the tie-rod end nut.

(1) Remove the cotter pin.
(2) Remove the nut.

4. Disconnect the tie-rod end from the knuckle using the SST.

Vehicles with ABS

1. Remove the bolt and position the ABS sensor out of the way.

All vehicles

1. Disconnect the lower ball joint form the wheel knuckle.

(1) Remove the pinch bolt.
(2) Disconnect the lower ball joint form the wheel knuckle.

2. Disconnect the drive shaft form the knuckle.

(1) Position the drive shaft out of the way and support.

3. Remove the wheel knuckle.

(1) Remove the strut-to-wheel knuckle bolts.
(2) Remove the wheel knuckle.

4. Remove the wheel hub from the wheel bearing knuckle using the SSTs.

5. Grind the bearing inner race until approx. 0.5 mm remains using a grinder.

Caution
• Do not damage the wheel hub by using a grinder or a chisel.
Note
• This step is not needed if the inner wheel bearing race remains on the wheel knuckle after removing the wheel hub.

6. Break off and remove the bearing inner race using a chisel.

7. Remove the snap ring.

8. Remove the bearing outer race from the wheel knuckle using the SSTs.

9. Remove the dust cover if necessary.

Note
• The dust cover is pressed on.

Installation

All vehicles

1. Install the dust cover if necessary.

2. Install the wheel bearing to the wheel hub using the SSTs.

3. Install the snap ring.

4. Press fit a wheel hub into the wheel bearing using the SSTs.

5. Install the wheel knuckle.

• Position the wheel knuckle.

6. Install the drive shaft to the wheel hub.

7. Install the bolt to the wheel knuckle.

• Position and align the ball joint stud into the wheel knuckle.

Vehicles with ABS

1. Install the ABS sensor and tighten the bolt.

All vehicles

1. Install the outer ball joint to the wheel knuckle.

• Install the outer ball joint nut.
• Install a new cotter pin.

2. Install a new wheel hub nut.

3. Install the brake disc. (See DISC PLATE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
