DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

Removal
1. Lift up the vehicle.
2. Remove the bolts and the rear differential cover.

Note

• Drain the differential fluid into a suitable drain pan.

(1) Drain the differential fluid from the housing.
Installation
1. Clean the gasket mating surfaces of the rear axle housing, the differential housing cover, and rotary blade coupling.

Caution
-
• Make sure the machined surfaces on the rear axle housing, the differential housing cover and the rotary blade coupling are clean and free of oil before installing the new silicone sealant. The inside of the rear axle must be covered when cleaning the machined surface to prevent contamination.
2. Apply a new continuous bead of clear silicone rubber.

• The differential housing cover must be installed within 15 minutes of application of the sealant, or new sealant must be applied. If possible, allow one hour before filling with lubricant to make sure the sealant has correctly cured.
3. Install the differential housing cover bolts.
4. Fill the rear axle with 1.4 L {1.48 US qt, 1.23 Imp qt} of rear axle oil.
5. Tighten the filler plug.
