Bench Air Bleeding

Warning
• Use of any brake fluid other than the specified brake fluid will cause permanent damage to brake components and will render the brakes inoperative. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
• Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
Caution
• Do not allow the reserve tank to run dry during the air bleeding operation. Keep the reserve tank filled with the specified brake fluid. Never reuse the brake fluid that has been drained from the hydraulic system.
• Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled, wipe it off immediately.
Note
• When any part of the hydraulic system has been disconnected for repair or replacement, air may enter the system, causing spongy brake pedal action. This requires the air bleeding of the hydraulic system after it has been correctly connected.

1. Support the master cylinder in a soft jaw vise, and fill the reserve tank with the specified brake fluid.

2. Install plugs in the primary and secondary outlet ports.

3. Loosen the plug in the secondary outlet port and slowly depress the primary piston.

4. Tighten the plug in the secondary outlet port and release the primary piston.

5. Repeat this procedure until clear, bubble-free brake fluid flows.

6. Repeat Steps 3, 4, and 5 for the primary outlet port with the secondary outlet port plugged.

7. Tighten the plugs and attempt to depress the primary piston. The piston will not depress if all the air is bled out of the system.

8. Install the cap and install the master cylinder in the vehicle. (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

1. Disconnect the brake pipes from the master cylinder and cap the brake pipes.

2. Install short brake hoses to the outlet ports with the ends submerged in the reserve tank.

3. Fill the reserve tank with specified brake fluid.

4. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal until clear, bubble-free brake fluid flows.

5. Remove the short brake hoses and install the brake pipes.
