Disassembly

Warning
•  Brake fluid contains polyglycol ethers and polyglycols. Avoid contact with eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after handling. If brake fluid contacts eyes, flush eyes with running water for 15 minutes. Get medical attention if irritation persists. If taken internally, drink water and induce vomiting. Get medical attention immediately. Failure to follow these instructions may result in personal injury.
Caution
• Brake fluid will damage painted surfaces. Be careful not to spill any on painted surfaces. If brake fluid is spilled, wipe it off immediately.

1. Remove the master cylinder. (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

2. Clean the outside of the master cylinder.

3. Remove the reserve tank.

4. Remove the seals.

5. Remove the snap ring.

6. Remove the primary and secondary piston.

7. Use isopropyl alcohol to clean and inspect the master cylinder bore for damage.

Note
• If the master cylinder bore is damaged, replace with a new master cylinder.

1. Use clean brake fluid to lubricate the new piston seals and the master cylinder bore.

2. Install the secondary piston.

3. Install the primary piston.

4. Install the snap ring.

5. Install the seals.

• Lubricate the two seals with clean brake fluid and insert the seals into the master cylinder.

6. Install the reserve tank.

• Press the reserve tank into the seals until it snaps in securely.

7. Install the master cylinder. (See MASTER CYLINDER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)
