Transaxle overheating

• ATF
• Powertrain control system malfunction
• Oil cooler malfunction
• Control valve body malfunction
• Torque converter clutch malfunction
• Oil pump malfunction
• Chain pan malfunction
• Thermostatic oil level control valve malfunction
• Transaxle case/converter housing/starter support malfunction

• Are there any malfunctions with the following?
- Electrical input/output
- Vehicle wiring harness
- PCM
- TCC solenoid
- Transaxle fluid temperature (TFT) sensor
- Turbine shaft speed (TSS) sensor
Yes
Perform OBD Tests
Perform DTC troubleshooting
No
Go to the next step

Oil cooler
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Damaged
- Blocked
- Reversed
- Restricted
- Leaking
- Misassembled

Go to the next step
4
Control valve body
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Bolts are not tightened to the specification
- Main regulator valve, bypass clutch control valve, converter regulator valve are stuck, damaged, or misassembled
- Hydraulic passages are damaged
- Separator plates/gaskets are damaged
- TCC solenoid malfunction (OFF)

Service if necessary
No
Go to the next step

Torque converter clutch
• Does the torque converter clutch apply?
Yes
Go to the next step
No
Perform the symptom troubleshooting No.27

Oil pump
• Does either of the following malfunctions exist?
- Gasket is damaged
- Rear lube passage is blocked
Yes
Service if necessary
No
Go to the next step
7
Chain pan
• Is it missing?
Yes
Install the chain pan
No
Go to the next step
8
Thermostatic oil level control valve
• Do any of the following malfunctions exist?
- Stuck open or damaged
- Gasket is damaged or missing
- Bolt or bracket is damaged, missing, or improperly installed
Yes
Service if necessary
No
Go to the next step
9
Transaxle case/converter housing/starter support
• Do either of the following malfunctions exist?
- Front lube passage is blocked or restricted
- TC, CI, CT passages are blocked or restricted
Yes
Service if necessary
No
The malfunction is not in the automatic transaxle
Inspect the cooling system

• Verify the test results.
- If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
- If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Bulletins and/or On-line Repair Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
• If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
• If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
