20

Noise occurs at idle when vehicle is stopped in all positions/ranges

DESCRIPTION

• Transaxle is noisy in all ranges when the vehicle is idling.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• The malfunction is in the pressure solenoid or oil pump which causes a high-pitched noise to be emitted from the transaxle at idle.
Note
• If a noise is emitted during shifting only, the malfunction is in shift solenoid A, B, or C.
• If a noise is emitted during shifting at certain gears only or during deceleration only, it is gear noise.
• Before following the troubleshooting steps, make sure that the Automatic Transaxle On-Board Diagnostic and Automatic Transaxle Basic Inspection are conducted.

Diagnostic procedure

STEP

INSPECTION

ACTION

1
Inspect engine condition.
Is there any engine concern (e.g. Rough idle)?
Yes
Go to appropriate symptom troubleshooting.
No
Go to the next step.
2
Stop the engine and turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Connect the WDS or equivalent to DLC-2.
Simulate LPS PID for 50%.
Is operating sound of the pressure control solenoid heard?
Yes
Inspect the engine and the transaxle mounts installation condition. Inspect for ATX cooler pipe vibration.
If normal, replace the control valve body and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts.
(See ATX Workshop Manual (GF4AX-EL))
If any problem remains, replace the transaxle and repair or replace any malfunctioning parts.
(See ATX Workshop Manual (GF4AX-EL))
No
Inspect connection of the pressure control solenoid terminal on the ATX for bent terminals, damage, corrosion or looseness.
Inspect for stuck pressure control solenoid.
If the pressure control solenoid is normal, inspect for open or short circuit between the PCM terminal 91 and the pressure control solenoid terminal G.
3
• Verify the test results.
- If normal, return to the diagnostic index to service any additional symptoms.
- If the malfunction remains, inspect the related Service Information and perform repair or diagnosis.
• If the vehicle is repaired, troubleshooting is completed.
• If the vehicle is not repaired or additional diagnostic information is not available, replace the PCM.
