Note

• If the transfer case is leaking ATF, install a new transfer case driven gear seal. (See TRANSFER CASE DRIVEN GEAR SEAL REMOVAL [LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].) (See TRANSFER CASE DRIVEN GEAR SEAL INSTALLATION [LA4AX-EL (CD4E)].)

1. Remove the exhaust front pipe. (See FRONT PIPE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [AJ (3.0L Duratec)].)

2. Remove the bolts.

3. Remove the heat shield.

4. Remove the joint shaft. (See JOINT SHAFT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [YF (2.0 L Zetec), AJ (3.0 L Duratec)].)

5. Remove and discard the dust shield.

6. If the hypoid gear lubricant is leaking from the transfer case, remove the RH front drive shaft seal.
