AIR BAG SYSTEM DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES

id080200803300

Note
• There are two deactivation procedures.
- One procedure requires removal of the front seats. This procedure will be used when diagnosing side air bag concerns, and also when repairing any in-seat component in vehicles equipped with side air bags.
- The other procedure does not require front seat removal. This procedure will be used when diagnosing a concern not related to the supplemental restraint system (SRS).

Deactivation Procedure (Front Seats Removed)

Warning
• Handling the components improperly can accidentally deploy the air bags and pre-tensioner front buckle, which may seriously injure you. Read the service warnings and cautions before handling the SRS air bag system components.
(See SERVICE WARNINGS.)
(See SERVICE CAUTIONS.)

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable and wait for 1 min or more.

2. Disconnect the driver-side air bag module connector which is connected to the clock spring.

3. Install the SST (diagnostic simulator) to the driver-side air bag module connector (clock spring-side connector).

4. Disconnect the passenger-side air bag module connector.

5. Install the SST (diagnostic simulator) to the passenger-side air bag module connector (vehicle wiring harness-side connector).

6. Vehicles equipped with side air bags: Remove the front seats.

7. Install the SST (diagnostic simulator) to the driver-side and passenger-side side air bag module connector (vehicle wiring harness-side connector).

8. Install the SST (diagnostic simulator) to the driver-side and passenger-side pre-tensioner front buckle connector (vehicle wiring harness-side connector).

9. Connect the negative battery cable.
