Deployed

Warning
• Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag system vehicle or when servicing a pre-tensioner front buckle. This will reduce the risk of injury if the air bag accidentally operates (deploys).

1. Dispose of the deployed pre-tensioner front buckle with the same procedure as other components.

Remote deployment

Warning
• Always wear safety glasses when repairing an air bag system vehicle and when repairing an air bag module or pre-tensioner front buckle. This will reduce the risk of injury if the air bag accidentally operates (deploys).
• Remote operation (deployment) is to be performed outdoors with all personnel at least 6.1 m {20 ft} away to ensure personal safety. Due to the loud noise which is produced when the pre-tensioner front buckle is operated (deployed), hearing protection is required.

1. Remove the pre-tensioner front buckle from the vehicle. (See FRONT BUCKLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION.)

Warning
• If the safety belt buckle pre-tensioner is not correctly installed to the wheel, serious injury may occur when it is operated (deployed). When installing the pre-tensioner front buckle to the wheel, make sure the steering wheel and air bag module are facing the appropriate direction.

2. Position the pre-tensioner front buckle on the center of the wheel and tire component.

3. Secure the pre-tensioner front buckle to the wheel and tire by wrapping the wire (diameter 1.25 mm2 {0.002 in2} or more) through the wheel and around the pre-tensioner front buckle at least four times.

4. Connect the SST (adapter wiring harness) to the pre-tensioner front buckle connector.

5. Stack three tires and one wheel and tire component on top of the pre-tensioner front buckle.

6. Secure all of the tires together with wire.

7. Connect the SST (Deployment tool).

8. Connect the SST (Deployment tool) to the battery.

(1) Connect the red clip to the positive battery terminal.
(2) Connect the black clip to the negative battery terminal.

9. Verify that the red light on the SST (Deployment tool) is illuminated.

10. Make sure all personnel are at least 6.1 m {20 ft} away from the air bag module.

11. Using the SST (Deployment tool), operate (deploy) the air bag module by pressing the activation switch.

12. To allow for cooling, wait at least 15 min or more before approaching the operated (deployed) air bag.

13. Dispose of the operated (deployed) air bag module.
