INSPECTION

ACTION

1
INSPECT 4WD FUNCTION OPERATION
Verify the 4WD function operation.
Is the 4WD function normal?
Yes
Go to the next step.
No
Refer to Section 03.
2
INSPECT WIRING HARNESS
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Disconnect the instrument cluster connector.
Turn the 4WD switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage at instrument cluster terminal 1A (harness-side).
Is the voltage more than 10 V?
Yes
Go to Step 4.
No
Go to the next step.
3
INSPECT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT OR SHORT TO GROUND
Turn the ignition switch off.
Disconnect the 4WD control module connector.
Measure the resistance between instrument cluster terminal 1A (harness-side) and 4WD relay terminal E (harness-side).
Measure the resistance between instrument cluster terminal 1A (harness-side) and ground.
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and 4WD relay, and more than 10,000 ohms between instrument cluster and ground?
Yes
Refer to Section 03.
No
Repair or replace the wiring harness. Inspect the system for normal operation.
4
INSPECT FOR SHORT TO POWER SUPPLY
Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
Measure the voltage between instrument cluster terminal 1A (harness-side) and ground.
Is there voltage?
Yes
Repair or replace the wiring harness. Inspect the system for normal operation.
No
Go to the next step.
5
INSPECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION
Disconnect all the instrument cluster connectors.
Inspection:
• Corrosion
• Terminal separation
Connect the instrument cluster connector and verify that its position is correct.
Operate the system and inspect for any malfunction.
Is any malfunction still present?
Yes
Replace the instrument cluster. Inspect the system for normal operation.
No
The system operates normally. The malfunction may result from loose connectors or corrosion. Clear the DTC. Repeat the self-test.
