GF32.22-P-4004GZU AIRmatic Level Adjustment, Function

GF32.22-P-4004GZU AIRmatic level adjustment, function
- with CODE (489) AIRmatic (air suspension with level adjustment and adaptive damping system ADS)
- except CODE (430) Offroad package
- with CODE (494) USA version

Component Identification:

The vehicle is raised or lowered depending on the ground speed and setting of the level adjustment switch and Comfort/Sport switch (ADS). 3 vehicle level stages are possible:
^ Raised vehicle level
^ Highway vehicle level
^ High speed vehicle level

The switch position operated by the driver also remains stored after "ignition OFF" until it is changed again manually or is canceled due to exceeding a certain speed threshold or time threshold.

Level adjustment switch actuated in ADS mode "AUTO"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (-30 mm).

Function:
^ Shortly after actuating the level adjustment switch the vehicle is moved to the raised vehicle level (+50 mm).

Display in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster (A1): "Vehicle rising", the LED in the level adjustment switch flashes on and off during the adjusting procedure and lights when at the raised level.

^ At a velocity of v greater than 40 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the velocity threshold limit v = 55 mph is exceeded, the "raised level" driver command is canceled and the vehicle is automatically lowered to the highway level (-30 mm).

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster:

"Level selection canceled".

^ At a velocity of v greater than 75 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the velocity threshold limit v = 85 mph is exceeded, the highway level is canceled and the vehicle is automatically lowered to the high speed level (-45 mm).

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster:

"Level selection canceled".

^ If the vehicle is at the high speed level (-45 mm), it is moved back to the highway level (-30 mm) if it travels at a velocity of v less than 40 mph for longer than t = 20 s or it drops below the velocity threshold limit v = 25 mph.

If v greater than 40 mph is not exceeded for longer than 20 s, the vehicle will remain at "raised level" until it is lowered to highway level again by pressing the level adjustment switch.

Level adjustment switch not actuated in ADS mode "AUTO"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (-30 mm).

Function:
^ At v greater than 75 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the vehicle velocity threshold limit v = 85 mph is exceeded, the vehicle is automatically lowered to the high speed level (-45 mm).
^ If the vehicle is at the high speed level (-45 mm), it is moved back to the highway level (-30 mm) if it travels at a velocity of v less than 40 mph for longer than t = 20 s or it drops below the velocity threshold limit v = 25 mph.

The high speed level cannot be manually selected, this is only selected upon reaching the vehicle velocity threshold.

Level adjustment switch not actuated in ADS mode "SPORT"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the high speed level (-45 mm).

Function:
^ Shortly after actuating the level adjustment switch the vehicle is moved to the raised level (+50 mm).

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster: "Vehicle rising", the LED in the level adjustment switch flashes on and off during the adjusting procedure and lights when at the raised level.

^ At a velocity of v greater than 40 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the velocity threshold limit v = 55 mph is exceeded, the "raised level" driver command is canceled and the vehicle is automatically lowered to the high speed level (-45 mm).

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster:

"Level selection canceled". When ADS mode "SPORT" is active the high speed level is automatically moved to.

^ At a velocity of v less than 25 mph, the "raised level" driver command can be manually selected again.

Display in multifunction display of instrument cluster: "Vehicle rising".

Level adjustment switch not actuated in ADS mode "SPORT"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running

Function:
^ The vehicle stays in the high speed level (-45 mm).

Level adjustment switch not actuated in ADS mode "COMFORT"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (-30 mm).

Function:
^ Shortly after actuating the level adjustment switch the vehicle is moved to the raised vehicle level (+50 mm).

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster:

"Level selection canceled".

Display in the multifunction display of the instrument cluster: "Vehicle rising", the LED in the level adjustment switch flashes on and off during the adjusting procedure and lights when at the raised level.

^ At a velocity of v greater than 40 mph for longer than t = 20 s or if the velocity threshold limit v = 55 mph is exceeded, the "raised level" driver command is canceled and the vehicle is automatically lowered to the highway level (-30 mm).
^ At a velocity of v greater than 110 mph, the "highway level" driver command is canceled and the vehicle is automatically lowered to the high speed level (-45 mm).

Level adjustment switch not actuated in ADS mode "COMFORT"

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ The vehicle is in the highway level (-30 mm).

Function:
^ At a velocity of v greater than 110 mph, the vehicle is automatically lowered to the high speed level (-45 mm).
^ At v less than 25 mph, the vehicle is automatically moved back to the highway level (-30 mm).

The high speed level cannot be manually selected, this is only selected upon reaching the vehicle velocity threshold.

Trailer operation

Function requirements:
^ Engine running
^ Trailer operation detected by AIRmatic control unit (N51)

Function
A trailer mode has been detected and this in turn influences the AIRmatic system as follows:

1. Vehicle runs at highway level only
2. High speed level no longer accessible.
3. If the driver fails to lower the vehicle manually, the vehicle is automatically lowered to the highway level at 5 mph or lower.

The trailer can only be unhitched from the vehicle when the AIRmatic control unit is active. This is not necessary for a trailer with low tongue weight capacity.

Comfort/Sport switch (ADS)
The driver can program the damping level as desired using the Comfort/Sport switch (ADS):

1. "AUTO" Skyhook mode
2. "SPORT" Firm damping
3. "COMFORT" Soft damping
