SOURCE: Mitsubishi Tech Talk Article September 2004TITLE: Suspension Noises After Strut Installation
APPLIES TO: 2003-05 Outlander
SERVICE TIP:
Front suspension noises which occur after front strut installation may be caused by a misaligned bearing. When assembling the strut, make sure that the bearing is placed first and properly seated into its cavity in the front strut insulator. See the photo below. Improper installation can cause suspension noise, and may also cause failures of the bearing and related components.
1. Before assembling the strut, place the bearing in its cavity in the insulator.
2. Assemble the strut.
3. When removing the spring compressor after strut assembly, make sure the bearing is seated correctly and is aligned properly with the insulator and the upper spring seat.
