DEALER ACTION

To reduce the possibility of this occurring on vehicles involved, dealers are to install the labels on all affected vehicles in new and used vehicle stock prior to their sale.

Dealers are to service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to the owner, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.

Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.

Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Open left front door and clean the surface of the old label with soap and water and wipe dry.

2. Peel new label from paper back and apply both sections of the label over the old label.

3. Install a campaign correction label on the radiator baffle where it is readily visible.

Each vehicle modified in accordance with the instructions outlined in this Product Campaign Bulletin will require a "Campaign Identification Label." Each label provides a space to include the five (5) digit dealer code of the dealer performing the campaign service. This information may be inserted with a typewriter or ballpoint pen.
Each "Campaign Identification Label" is to be located on the radiator core support in an area which will be visible when the vehicle is brought in by the owner for periodic servicing.

Apply "Campaign Identification Label" only on a clean dry surface.

LABEL INFORMATION

Certification and Tire Placard labels bearing the VIN of each vehicle involved will be forwarded directly to owners of record with instructions for installation. Owners may install the label personally or request that it be installed by your dealership. Should this occur the label is to be installed at no charge to the owner and a claim submitted.

Dealers having vehicles to correct, will be forwarded a specific label for each VIN listed that Oldsmobile records indicate to be in dealer inventory, along with the Campaign Bulletin.

If a label is received mutilated or unusable, please contact your zone office for information on obtaining a duplicate label.

Dear Oldsmobile Owner:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

General Motors has determined that certain 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88 models fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110 regarding tire placard requirements. The tire placard label on the left front door of your vehicle may have been printed in error. The error appears on the tire placard label and specifies a higher maximum loading than is allowed. Excessive vehicle loading could cause a tire blowout.

We have enclosed the correct Certification and Tire Placard label for your vehicle. You may install this label yourself or take it to an Oldsmobile dealer for installation at no charge to you.

To install the label yourself, instructions are as follows:

1. Open the left front door of vehicle and locate the old label. This label is located on the end of the door. Verify that the Vehicle Identification Number printed on the new label is the same as on the old label.

2. Clean the surface of the old label by wiping with a clean dry rag.

3. Remove backing from new label and carefully apply label over old label.

NOTICE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE OR LOOSEN THE NEW LABEL ONCE IT HAS BEEN APPLIED, AS THIS WILL DEFACE THE LABEL.

4. If you install the new label yourself, please let us know by completing the enclosed BLUE postage paid reply card and returning it to us.

Should you choose to have an Oldsmobile dealer install the label, please contact your dealer to arrange a mutually satisfactory service date to have this modification performed. Take the enclosed label with you. The labor time to perform this correction is approximately 5 minutes. Please allow additional time for the dealer to process your vehicle.

Your Oldsmobile Dealer is best equipped to provide service to ensure your vehicle is corrected as promptly as possible. However, if you take your vehicle to your dealer on the agreed service date and the dealer does not remedy this condition on that date or within five days, we recommend you contact the nearest Oldsmobile Zone Office, either in person or by telephone. The zone office will assist you and the dealer in getting your vehicle corrected. The locations and telephone numbers of the Zone Offices are listed in your Warranty and Owner Assistance Information booklet which is located in your glove compartment.
After contacting your dealer and the zone office, if you are still not satisfied that we have done our best to remedy this condition without charge, within a reasonable time, you may wish to write the Administrator, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590, or call 800-424-9393 (Washington, D.C. residents use 426-0123).
