DTC 84

Diagnostic Chart:

Circuit Schematic:

BRAKE SWITCH STUCK OPEN
The brake switch is normally closed supplying 12 volts to the PCM at terminal J3E05 when the key is on and brake off.

INFORMATION FLAG PARAMETERS
Information flag 84 is set when the PCM has detected the following conditions twice per ignition cycle.
- Vehicle has cycled five times from 0-60 km/h (0-37 mph).
- No voltage has been seen at PCM terminal J3B5 (circuit 86).

TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbered steps below refer to numbered steps on chart.
1. A ground in circuits 341A, 341B or 341C will cause the (5A) "CRUISE" fuse to fail. If the fuse fails information flag 84 will be set and the cruise system will not operate if equipped.
2. If circuit 300 is open information flag 84 will be set. This test checks circuit 300 for opens.
3. A switch that is out of adjustment or is failed open will cause information flag 84 to be set. This step checks for correct switch operation.
4. An open in circuit 341A will cause information flag 84 to set. This step checks circuit 341A for opens.
5. If circuits 86B or 86 are open information flag 84 will be set. This step indicates an open circuit 86B/86 or a faulty PCM.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem use the Scan tool[1] to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem.

Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.
