Power Steering Pump Seal: Service and Repair

POWER STEERING PUMP DRIVE SHAFT SEAL (L61)

REMOVAL

IMPORTANT: This procedure does not require disassembly of pump.





1. Remove pump from vehicle, as described previously.
2. Protect drive shaft with shim stock.
3. Using a small chisel, pry drive shaft seal and remove from pump housing.

INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate new drive shaft seal with power steering fluid (GM Spec. 9985010).





2. Install drive shaft seal into pump housing with suitably sized socket.
3. Install pump in vehicle as previously described.
4. Bleed power steering system.
