Brake Pads Replacement - Rear

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the rear wheel and the tire assemblies.





3. Drive out the brake pad retaining pins from the outside to the inside, and remove the pins and the retaining spring.





4. Remove the brake pads.
5. Inspect the brake pad retaining pins for deterioration or damage. If damaged. replace.
6. Inspect the brake pad retaining spring for deterioration or damage. If damaged, replace.
7. Inspect the brake caliper piston seal for leakage or damage. If damaged, overhaul the caliper.

Installation Procedure





Important: Never replace the brake pads on one side of the axle only. The left and right side brake pads must be replaced only as axle sets.

1. Install the new brake pads into the caliper.
2. Apply a small amount of silicone grease to the retaining pins.

Important: Check to ensure the brake pads move freely in the guide.

3. Install the brake pad retaining spring, and drive the brake pad retaining pins in from the inside outward.
4. Install the tire and wheel assembly.
5. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
6. Prior to operating the vehicle, depress the brake pedal 3-5 times until the brake pads are seated against the rotor.
