75. 3RD Clutch Stack Up Clearance Inspection

3rd Clutch Stack Up Clearance Inspection

- Tools Required
- DT 46666 Compressor

1. Zero the indicator (1) with the 3rd clutch backing plate (811) lifted up to the 3rd clutch backing plate retaining ring (810).
2. Release the 3rd clutch backing plate (811) to relax the clutch pack stack up, and then place the DT 46666 on the 3rd clutch backing plate.

3. Using approximately 39 Nm (9 ft. lbs.) of force, press the DT 46666 (2) down and perform the following:
3.1. Read the dial indicator (1). The current dial indicator reading is the clearance (a) between the 3rd clutch backing plate (811) and top 3rd clutch fiber plate (812).
3.2. Measure in at least 3 places, and use average of the 3 measurements as the actual clearance.
- Specification 0.7-0.9 mm (0.028-0.035 inch)

Important: If the thickest 3rd clutch backing plate is installed, but the clearance is still over the service specification, then replace all 3rd clutch steel and fiber plates and recheck the 3rd clutch for proper clearance.

4. If the clearance is out of specifications, select a new 3rd clutch backing plate from the specification tables. Install the new 3rd clutch backing plate, and then recheck for proper clearance.
