97. Front Differential Backlash Inspection

Front Differential Backlash Inspection





1. Remove 12 front differential gear mount bolts (906) from the front differential assembly (904).
2. Remove the front differential driven ring gear (905) from the front differential assembly (904).
3. For AWD only, remove the front differential transfer case drive ring gear (903) from the front differential assembly (904).





4. Install both axles, and place the front differential assembly (904) on V-blocks as shown.
5. Check the backlash of the pinion gears (956) and (958) with a dial indicator (1).
Specification:
- The backlash of the pinion gears are between 0.05-0.15mm (0.002-0.006 inch)
6. If the backlash is out of specification, replace the front differential assembly (904).
