Cooling Fan Replacement - Electric (L81)

Removal Procedure





1. Remove the battery.

Important: You do not have to disconnect the electrical connector from the fan control module.

Remove the fan control module by sliding up and off the bracket. Lay the module and wiring out of the way.





2. Remove the control module mounting bracket.
3. Drain the coolant.





4. Remove the bolts which secure the power steering fluid reservoir to the fan shroud.
5. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir.Position the reservoir rearward in the car.





6. Disconnect the cooling fan electrical connectors.
7. Remove the electrical connectors from the retainer by sliding the connector as shown.
8. Remove the retainer tabs which secure the electrical harness to the fan shroud.





9. Remove the upper transaxle cooler line from the radiator end tank.
10. Remove the retainer which secures the transaxle cooler line to the end tank.
11. Cap or tape off the cooler line to prevent oil loss or contamination.





12. Remove the clamp which secures the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
13. Remove the upper radiator hose from the radiator.





14. Remove the bolts which secure the fan shroud to the radiator.
15. Remove the fan shroud.

Installation Procedure





Important: Verify that the pusher fan electrical harness is not between the fan shroud and the radiator.

1. Install the fan and shroud assembly onto the radiator lower tabs.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

2. Install the bolts which secure the fan shroud to the radiator.
^ Tighten the bolts to 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.).





3. Install the retainer which secures the upper transaxle oil cooler line to the radiator end tank.
4. Remove the cap.
5. Install the oil cooler line to the radiator.
^ Tighten the cooler line to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).





6. Route the pusher fan electrical harness around the outside of the radiator end tank to the upper fan shroud.
7. Install the fan electrical connectors into the retainers as shown.
8. Connect the fan electrical connectors.
9. Install the pusher fan harness under the routing tabs on the fan shroud.





10. Install the upper radiator hose to the radiator.
11. Install the upper radiator hose clamp at the 12 o'clock position.





12. Install the bolts that secure the power steering fluid reservoir to the fan shroud.
^ Tighten the bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).





13. Install the battery.
14. Install the fan control module by sliding down onto the bracket.
15. Fill the cooling system.
