Exhaust Resonator: Service and Repair

Resonator Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in Service Precautions.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.





2. Remove the fasteners that hold the exhaust manifold pipe to the exhaust resonator.





3. Remove the exhaust resonator to muffler attachment clamp.
4. Separate the exhaust resonator from the muffler by pulling and twisting in the opposite direction.





5. Remove the exhaust resonator isolators.
6. Remove the exhaust resonator.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the exhaust resonator into the vehicle and install the isolators.

Important: Do not tighten the clamp and crush the exhaust pipe.





2. Slide the muffler assembly onto the exhaust resonator and tighten the clamp.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

3. Install the exhaust resonator to the exhaust manifold pipe and tighten the fasteners.
^ Tighten the exhaust manifold pipe-to-resonator bolts to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.).
4. Lower the vehicle from the hoist.
5. Check the entire exhaust system for leaks.
