Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump Replacement (L66)
Removal Procedure

1. Drain the coolant, Service and Repair
2. Remove the timing belt, Service and Repair

3. Important:
^ When a vehicle is diagnosed to have coolant leaking inside the timing belt cover, a visual inspection of the timing belt should be completed. If there is any indication that coolant has leaked onto the timing belt (i.e. wetness, staining, etc.), the timing belt should be replaced.
^ When replacing the water pump, coolant will be spilled onto the timing belt. Replacement of the timing belt due to coolant spillage on the belt is not necessary.

Remove the water pump assembly bolts.
4. Remove the water pump and O-ring.

Installation Procedure

1. Clean and block at the water pump mating surface.
2. Install a new water pump O-seal to the water pump.
3. Install the water pump assembly.

4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

Install the water pump bolts.
^ Tighten the water pump bolts to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
5. Install the timing belt, Service and Repair
6. Fill the coolant system, Service and Repair
