CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION

DTC Detecting Condition:

While the engine is being cranked, the battery positive voltage is applied to terminal STA of the ECM.

While the engine is being cranked, the battery positive voltage is applied to terminal STA of the ECM.

If the vehicle is being driven and the ECM detects the starter control signal (STA), the ECM concludes that the starter control circuit is malfunctioning. The ECM will turn on the MIL and will set a DTC.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

HINT: Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool, as freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, it is useful for determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, the engine was warmed up or not, the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, etc. at the time of the malfunction.
