INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. INSPECT COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY

(a) Shift the shift lever (M/T) or transmission gear selector lever (A/T) to the neutral position.
(b) Jack up the vehicle.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(d) Check the voltage while the wheel is turning slowly.
Standard Voltage:

HINT: The output voltage should fluctuate up and down as shown in the diagram on the left when the wheel is turning slowly.

NG -- CONFIRM TRANSMISSION TYPE
OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
2. CONFIRM TRANSMISSION TYPE
(a) Check the vehicle's transmission type.

Result

B -- INSPECT SPEEDOMETER SENSOR
A -- Continue to next step.

3. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Turn the Techstream ON.
(d) Enter the following menus: Chassis / ABS/VSC/TRAC / Data List.
(e) According to the display on the tester, read the Data List.

ABS/VSC/TRAC

OK:
Vehicle speed displayed on the tester is almost the same as the actual vehicle speed.

Result

C -- GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM
B -- GO TO BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM
A -- Continue to next step.

4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY)

(a) Disconnect the C9 combination meter connector.
(b) Disconnect the S1 skid control ECU connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

- *1: Hydraulic Booster Type
- *2: Vacuum Booster Type
(d) Reconnect the skid control ECU connector.
(e) Reconnect the combination meter connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
5. INSPECT SPEEDOMETER SENSOR

(a) Remove the speedometer sensor.
(b) Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and the negative(-) lead to terminal 2.
(c) Connect the positive (+) lead from the tester to terminal 3 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2.
(d) Rotate the shaft.
(e) Check that the voltage output varies between 0 V and 11 V between terminals 2 and 3.
(f) Reinstall the speedometer sensor.
NG -- REPLACE SPEEDOMETER SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPEEDOMETER SENSOR - COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY)

(a) Disconnect the C9 combination meter connector.
(b) Disconnect the V1 speedometer sensor connector.
(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:

(d) Reconnect the combination meter connector.
(e) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

(f) Reconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSEMBLY
