SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM: FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL
1. PRECAUTION
CAUTION:
Be sure to read "PRECAUTION" thoroughly before servicing Service Precautions
2. POSITION FRONT WHEELS STRAIGHT AHEAD
3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL
CAUTION:
Wait for at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable to prevent airbag deployment.
NOTICE:
When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected Repair Instruction - Initialization
4. REMOVE LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER Removal
5. REMOVE LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER Removal
6. REMOVE STEERING PAD Removal
7. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Removal
8. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER Removal
9. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Removal

43. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the connector.
44. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY (for Pole Antenna Type) Removal
45. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL SAFETY PAD ASSEMBLY (for Glass Antenna Type) Removal
46. REMOVE NO. 4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT Disassembly
47. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
(a) Remove the 2 screws.
(b) Disengage the 5 hooks.
(c) Disengage the 5 hooks and remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the instrument panel safety pad assembly as shown in the illustration.
48. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE ASSEMBLY
(a) Disconnect the 2 airbag connectors.
NOTICE:
When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
(b) Remove the clamp and instrument panel wire assembly from the front passenger airbag assembly.
