Applicability

Introduction

Some vehicles may exhibit a MIL "ON" condition with one or more of the following Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs):

^ P261B - Engine Coolant Pump "B" Control Malfunction

^ P261C - Engine Coolant Pump "B" Control Circuit Low Improvements have been made to the electric water pump to correct this condition.

This TSB applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.





Warranty Information

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Toyota Powertrain Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 60 months or 60,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.

Required Tools & Equipment

Additional TIS Techstream or Techstream Lite units may be ordered by calling Approved Dealer Equipment (ADE).

Repair Procedure

1. Using TIS Techstream check for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).

2. Are DTCs P261B or P261C present?

^ YES - Continue to step 3.

^ NO - Diagnose other DTC(s) first.

3. Disconnect the water pump assembly connector.

4. Turn the power switch ON (IG).

5. Measure the voltage at D13-1 to body ground.

6. Is there battery voltage?

^ YES - Go to step 7.

^ NO - This TSB does NOT apply. Refer to the Repair Manual for additional diagnostics.

7. Replace the electric water pump.

Refer to TIS 2010 model year Prius Repair Manual:

^ Engine/Hybrid System - Cooling - "2ZR-FXE Cooling: Water Pump: Removal / Installation"

8. Clear DTCs and confirm repair.
