Brake Pads
Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
• Piston Resetting Tool (T10145)
• When removing, mark the brake pads in case they will be reused. Install them in the same position, otherwise braking effect will be uneven!
Removing
- Remove the wheel.
- Disconnect the connector - 1 - for the brake pad wear indicator.
- Drive out the brake pad retaining pins - arrows -.
- Remove the brake pad wear indicator wire from the brake caliper housing and retaining spring - 1 -.
- Remove the retaining spring.
Before pressing the brake pads back, extract some brake fluid from the reservoir using a bleeder bottle. Otherwise, especially if the reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Press the brake pads off the brake disc and remove them from the brake caliper.
- If the brake pads are to be replaced, carefully remove the contact sensor with brake pad wear indicator wire from the brake pads and check for damage.
Reuse undamaged contact sensors and wires.
Cleaning
CAUTION!
Do not blow on the brake system with compressed air, the brake dust produced is harmful to your health!
- Clean brake caliper.
Use only appropriate solvents for cleaning brake caliper.
Installing
• Before pressing the pistons into the cylinders using the (T10145), brake fluid must be extracted from the brake fluid reservoir. Otherwise, especially if the reservoir has been topped off, fluid will overflow and cause damage.
- Press the pistons in.
- Carefully install the brake pad wear indicator wire contact sensor to the new brake pads.
- Install the brake pads into the brake caliper housing.
- Install retaining spring - 1 -.
- Install the brake pad wear indicator wire below the tab on the retaining spring and in the brake caliper housing - arrows -.
- Press the retaining spring down and install the brake pad retaining pins in the brake caliper.
- Drive the brake pad retaining pins into the brake caliper until seated.
- Connect the connector - 1 - for the brake pad wear indicator.
- Install the wheel.
• After replacing the brake pads, firmly press the brake pedal several times with the vehicle stationary so that the brake pads are properly seated in their normal operating position.
• Check the brake fluid level after replacing the brake pads.
