Pinpoint Test AL: The CHECK AIR SUSPENSION or AIR SUSPENSION OFF Warning Is Inoperative

Normal Operation

The air suspension on/off status is sent from the Vehicle Dynamics Module (VDM) to the Instrument Cluster (IC) over the High Speed Controller Area Network (HS-CAN) communication bus lines. When the RESET button is pressed, the IC sends a query to the VDM, requesting a system status. The VDM responds to the IC with the status of the system, either on or off. If the return status message is missing or corrupted, the IC does not display the brackets around either the ON or OFF selection.

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- IC configuration
- Air suspension system
- VDM
- IC

PINPOINT TEST AL: THE CHECK AIR SUSPENSION OR AIR SUSPENSION OFF WARNING IS INOPERATIVE

-------------------------------------------------
AL1 VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AIR SUSPENSION

- Check to confirm that the vehicle is equipped with air suspension.
- Is the vehicle equipped with air suspension?

Yes
GO to AL2.

No
The message center does not provide the AIR SUSPENSION ON/OFF display.

-------------------------------------------------
AL2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC SELF-TEST

NOTE: The IC must be configured for parking aid for the parking aid on/off feature to be displayed in the message center. Parking aid configuration is not a customer preference item and must be configured as part of the Programmable Module Installation (PMI). If the IC is not configured correctly, DTC B2477 sets and the PMI procedure must be repeated to accurately configure the IC for parking aid.

- Retrieve the recorded DTCs from the IC self-test.
- Is DTC B2477 retrieved?

Yes
CARRY OUT the PMI procedure for the IC. REFER to Information Bus. Programmable Module Installation (PMI)

No
GO to AL3.

-------------------------------------------------
AL3 CHECK THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM OPERATION

- Operate the air suspension system and check for correct operation when the feature is selected on and off. Refer to the Owner's Literature for additional information on selecting the parking aid system on or off.
- Does the air suspension system operate correctly when the feature is selected on then off?

Yes
If the AIR SUSPENSION OFF warning is inoperative, GO to AL4.

If the CHECK SUSPENSION SYSTEM warning is inoperative, INSTALL a new VDM. REFER to Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic Level ).
TEST the system for normal operation.

If the CHECK AIR SUSPENSION or AIR SUSPENSION OFF warning indicator is still inoperative, INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
REFER to Suspension Control ( Automatic - Electronic Level ).

-------------------------------------------------
AL4 CHECK THE AIR SUSPENSION DISPLAY IN THE MESSAGE CENTER

- Press the SETUP button repeatedly and verify that the IC displays AIR SUSPENSION ON OFF.
- Does the message center display AIR SUSPENSION ON OFF?

Yes
GO to AL5.

No
INSTALL a new IC. REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) Instrument Cluster (IC). TEST the system for normal operation.

-------------------------------------------------
AL5 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER ON/OFF DISPLAY

- Press the SETUP button until AIR SUSPENSION ON OFF is displayed.
- Does the ON or OFF have the < > brackets around it indicating the desired selection?

Yes
PRESS the RESET button to allow the IC to query the VDM again.

If the display is still incorrect, REFER to Information Bus to diagnose no communication with the VDM.

No
The system is operating normally at this time. The problem may have been caused by a momentary loss of communication with the VDM.
