Exhaust Downpipe




Exhaust Downpipe - 2.3L

Removal

NOTICE: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.

1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Jacking and Lifting Service and Repair.

2. Disconnect the Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and Catalyst Monitor Sensor (CMS) electrical connectors.

3. Remove the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly bolts, 2 flagnuts and gasket.
- Discard the flagnuts and gasket.

4. Remove the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
- Discard the nuts.





5. Remove the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt and remove the exhaust downpipe.





Installation

NOTICE: Do not use oil or grease-based lubricants on the isolators. These lubricants may cause deterioration of the rubber. This can lead to separation of the isolator from the exhaust hanger bracket during vehicle operation.

NOTE: Clean all the mating surface of the exhaust downpipe.

1. NOTICE: Prior to Installation, Inspect the HO2S and the CMS wiring harness for damage.

Position the exhaust downpipe into the vehicle and install the transmission mount and isolator-to-transmission bolt.

- Tighten to 90 Nm (66 lb-ft).





2. Install the 2 new exhaust downpipe-to-exhaust manifold nuts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).





3. Install a new exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly gasket.

4. Install the 2 exhaust downpipe-to-muffler and tail pipe assembly bolts and 2 new flagnuts.
- Tighten to 40 Nm (30 lb-ft).

5. Connect the HO2S and CMS electrical connectors.

6. Check to see if the exhaust system isolators are at zero load. If the exhaust system isolators are not at zero load, carry out the exhaust system alignment procedure. For additional information, refer to Exhaust System Alignment Service and Repair.
