Pinpoint Test R: The Door Ajar Warning Indicator Is Never/Always On

Normal Operation

The Instrument Cluster (IC) receives the door ajar status for the LH front door, RH front door, LH rear door, RH rear door, hood ajar and liftgate ajar switch status from the Smart Junction Box (SJB) over the Medium Speed Controller Area Network (MS-CAN) communication bus. When the IC (Instrument Cluster) receives a message from the SJB (Smart Junction Box) that one or more doors, the hood or the decklid are open or ajar, the IC (Instrument Cluster) turns on the door ajar warning indicator. If the door ajar status message is missing for greater than 5 seconds, the IC (Instrument Cluster) sets DTC U0140 and defaults the door ajar warning indicator on.

NOTE: If DTC U0140 is set in the IC (Instrument Cluster), other symptoms may also be present in the IC (Instrument Cluster), such as high beam indicator, RH/LH turn indicators, instrument panel backlighting and Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

This pinpoint test is intended to diagnose the following:

- Interior lighting concern

- SJB (Smart Junction Box)

- IC (Instrument Cluster)

PINPOINT TEST R : THE DOOR AJAR WARNING INDICATOR IS NEVER/ALWAYS ON

NOTICE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.

R1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LIGHTING OPERATION

- Open and close each door and the liftgate while monitoring the interior lamps.

Do the interior lamps operate correctly with each door and the liftgate?

Yes
GO to R2.

No
REFER to Lighting and Horns.

R2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IC (Instrument Cluster) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded IC (Instrument Cluster) DTCs from the self-test.

Is DTC U0140 recorded?

Yes
GO to Pinpoint Test AS. Pinpoint Test AS: DTC U0140

No
GO to R3.

R3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE SJB (Smart Junction Box) SELF-TEST

- Check for recorded SJB (Smart Junction Box) DTCs from the self-test.

Are any SJB (Smart Junction Box) DTCs recorded?

Yes
For DTC B1520, REFER to Antitheft and Alarm Systems.

For all other DTCs, REFER to Body Control Systems.

No
GO to R4.

R4 CARRY OUT THE IC (Instrument Cluster) INDICATOR LAMP CONTROL ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

- Ignition ON.

- Enter the following diagnostic mode on the scan tool: IC (Instrument Cluster) DataLogger.

- Select the IC (Instrument Cluster) door ajar warning indicator (DRAJLMP) active command. Command the door ajar warning indicator on and off while observing the door ajar indicator.

Does the door ajar warning indicator illuminate when commanded on and turn off when commanded off?

Yes
INSTALL a new SJB (Smart Junction Box). TEST the system for normal operation.

No
INSTALL a new IC (Instrument Cluster). REFER to Instrument Cluster (IC) . TEST the system for normal operation.
