Water Pump Replacement (Diesel)
Removal Procedure
1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Vac-N-Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill LGH, LML) Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static Fill).
2. Remove the fan pulley. Refer to Fan Pulley Replacement Service and Repair.
3. Remove the radiator outlet pipe. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (Non-HP2) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LGH, LML) Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement.
4. Remove the thermostat housing crossover. Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement (LML) Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement.
5. Remove the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Remove the water pump to water pump outlet pipe nuts (1) from the studs (2).
7. Remove the water pump nut (1) and bolts (2).
Note: The bolts (2) are different lengths.
8. Remove the water pump (5).
9. Remove and discard the water pump O-ring (3) and the water pump outlet pipe gasket (4).
Installation Procedure
1. Lubricate the water pump O-ring (3) with engine oil.
2. Install the water pump outlet pipe gasket (4) and the lubricated water pump O-ring (3).
Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution Fastener Caution.
3. Install the water pump nut (1) and bolts (2). Ensure the correct length bolt is used in the proper location and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
4. Install the water pump to water pump outlet pipe nuts (1) to the studs (2) and tighten to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).
5. Install the crankshaft balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement Service and Repair.
6. Install the thermostat housing crossover. Refer to Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement (LML) Thermostat Housing Crossover Replacement.
7. Install the fan pulley. Refer to Fan Pulley Replacement Service and Repair.
8. Install the radiator outlet pipe. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (Non-HP2) Radiator Outlet Hose ReplacementRadiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LGH, LML) Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement.
