DTC 72
DTC 72: Steering Angle Sensor1. Check for DTCs using the HDS.
Are DTC 91 or 92 indicated with DTC 72?
YES - Troubleshoot DTC 91 or 92 and recheck.
NO - Go to step 2.
2. Put the vehicle on a level surface, and center the steering wheel spokes.
3. Connect the HDS to the DLC.
4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
5. On the HDS; select ABS TCS VSA, then DATA LIST. Check STEERING ANGLE.
With steering wheel in the straight ahead position, is STEERING ANGLE within ± 5°?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Check for installation of the steering angle sensor. If installation is good, do the steering angle sensor center point writing.
6. Check the wheel alignment.
Is the wheel alignment within the specification?
YES - Go to step 7.
NO - Make sure the suspension is not modified, and adjust the wheel alignment correctly, and recheck by test-driving.
7. Clear the DTCs using the HDS.
8. Turn the ignition switch OFF, then disconnect the HDS.
9. Test-drive the vehicle around a number of corners.
Does the VSA indicator come on, and is DTC 72 indicated?
YES - Replace the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - intermittent failure; the most probable cause is that vehicle have run on an extreme canted road. The system is OK at this time.
