Symptom Troubleshooting: Navigation does not call using the HFL

Navigation does not call using the HFL

NOTE:

- Always have the customer demonstrate their concern. Compare the operation of this feature in a known-good vehicle.

- Review the navigation system manual for the proper operation of this feature. If the navigation database does not have a phone number listed for the POI you are trying to call (for example, a public park), the navigation system cannot place a call through HFL.

- You must have the customer's phone, the phone must be on the list of the HFL approved phones and configured correctly.

1. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and then back to ON (II).

4. Check for B-CAN DTCs in the data list.

Are there any DTCs in the B-CAN systems?
YES - Troubleshoot and repair all CAN related DTCs and retest.

NO - Make sure the cell phone is paired to the HFL Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview and working properly, then go to step 5.


5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Disconnect navigation unit connector D (5P) and HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

7. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector D (5P) and body ground according to the table.





Is there continuity?
YES - There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 8.






8. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector D (5P) according to the table.

Is there continuity?
YES - Short in the wires between navigation unit and HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO - Go to step 9.






9. Check for continuity between navigation unit connector D (5P) and HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.





Is there continuity?
YES - Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit, HandsFreeLink Control Unit Input Test/Replacement (With Navigation) then reconnect all of the connectors and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit. HandsFreeLink Control Unit Input Test/Replacement (With Navigation) If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the navigation unit. Service and Repair

NO - Open in the wire(s) between the HandsFreeLink control unit and the navigation unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.
