Automatic Transmission Installation




Automatic Transmission Installation

Special Tools Required

- Engine support hanger, A and Reds AAR-T12566
- Engine hanger balance bar VSB02C000019
- Engine hanger adapter set VSB02C000024
- Front subframe adapter VSB02BMDXSB0
These special tools are available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program.

NOTE:

- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

- Special tool Reds engine support hanger AAR-T12566 must be used with the side engine mount installed.

1. Clean the ATF cooler. ATF Cooler Cleaning

2. Install the torque converter (A) on the mainshaft (B) with a new O-ring (C).

3. Install the 14 mm dowel pin (D) and the 10 mm dowel pin (E) in the torque converter housing.






4. Install the transmission lower mounts.

5. Place the transmission on the jack, and raise it to engine level.






6. Attach the transmission to the engine, and install the transmission housing mounting bolts.






7. Install the transmission housing mounting bolts.






8. Install the front transmission housing mounting bolt (A) using a socket 22 mm long and a torque wrench.

9. Install the front transmission housing mounting bolt (B).






10. Install the front mount bracket (A) with the new bolts.

11. Install the sensor harness clamp bracket (B) on the mount bracket.






12. Install the transmission housing mounting bolts.






13. Install a new set ring (A) on the intermediate shaft (B), and install the intermediate shaft in the differential. While installing the intermediate shaft in the differential, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission.

14. Install the exhaust manifold bracket (C) and the heat shield (D).

15. Install a new set ring on the left driveshaft, then install the left driveshaft in the differential. Front Driveshaft Installation While installing the driveshaft in the differential, be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission. Install the right driveshaft over the intermediate shaft.

NOTE: Turn the right and left steering knuckle fully outward, and slide the driveshafts into the differential and over the intermediate shaft until you feel the set ring engage.






16. Support the front subframe (A) with the front subframe adapter (EQS02BMDXB0) and a jack, and lift it up to the body.

17. Loosely install new subframe mounting bolts (B), rear stiffeners (C) and mounting bolts (D), and front stiffeners (E) and mounting bolts (F).






18. Loosely tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt (A); insert the frame positioning guide pin through the positioning slot (B) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the subframe, and into the positioning hole (D) on the body, then tighten the subframe mounting bolt.

19. Loosely tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt in the same manner in step 16.

20. Loosely tighten the right and left front subframe mounting bolts.

21. Loosen the right rear mounting bolt, then tighten the bolt to the specified torque with putting the guide pin into the positioning hole.

22. Tighten the left rear mounting bolt to the specified torque with putting the guide pin into the positioning hole.

23. Tighten the right and left front mounting bolts to the specified torque.

24. Check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the guide pin.

25. Tighten the rear and front stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.

26. Remove the jack and front subframe adapter.






27. Install both bolt retainers (A) on both rear mounting bolts (B) of the front subframe (C).






28. Install the rear mount bracket bolts.






29. Install the transmission lower mount nuts.






30. Attach the torque converter to the drive plate (A) with eight bolts (B). Rotate the crankshaft pulley as necessary to tighten the bolt to 1/2 of the specified torque, then to the final torque, in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely.

31. Install the torque converter cover (C).






32. Connect the power steering fluid hose (A) to the line (B), and secure the hose with its hose clamp (C).

33. Secure the hose with the hose clamp (D).






34. Connect the power steering pressure switch connector.






35. Install the dowel pin (A) in the transmission.

36. Insert the one 10 x 1.25 mm bolt (length: 105 mm) (B) in the rear upper of the transfer housing, then install the transfer assembly (C) on the transmission.






37. Install the propeller shaft (A) to the transfer companion flange (B) by aligning the reference mark (C).






38. Install the ball joints on each lower arms (A) to each knuckles (B) with new castle nuts (C), and secure the castle nuts with the lock pins (D). Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation

39. Install the nuts (E) to the ball joint pins (F) on each stabilizer link (G). Insert a 6 mm Allen wrench (H) in the top of the ball joint pins, and tighten the nuts to the specified torque.

40. Install the tie-rod end ball joints (I) to each knuckle with the nuts (J) and new cotter pins (K). Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation






41. Secure the transfer breather hose bracket (A) on the transfer assembly with the bolt, and install the breather hose (B) over the breather pipe (C) with the dot (D) on the hose facing out.






42. Install exhaust pipe A with new self-locking nuts, its mount (B), and new gaskets (C) (D).






43. Install the front subframe stiffener with new mounting bolts.






44. Install the new front mount bolt, and install the front mount stop (A) with the new nuts.

45. Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger adapters, and the engine balance bar.






46. Install the connector bracket on the engine front cylinder head.






47. Install the harness clamp brackets on the engine rear cylinder head.






48. Install the transfer breather (A) on the throttle cable bracket (B). Install the transfer breather hose clamp (C) on the heater hose (D), centering the heater hose dot (E) in the clamp opening.






49. Connect the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (A), the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B), the ATF temperature sensor connector (C), and the 3rd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (D). Do not allow water, fluid, oil, dust, or other foreign particles to enter any of the connectors.






50. Connect the ATF cooler hoses (A) to the ATF cooler lines (B), and secure the hoses with the clips (C). ATF Cooler Line and Hose Assembly Replacement






51. Connect the 2nd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector.






52. Connect the transmission range switch connector (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on the clamp bracket (C).

53. Install the transmission ground cable (D).






54. Secure the harness cover (A) and the harness cover/clamp bracket (B) with the bolts.

55. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (C).






56. Install the harness cover (A) on the harness cover/clamp bracket (B), and secure it with the bolt.

57. Connect the 4th clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (C). Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (D), and the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (E).






58. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).

59. Attach the shift cable end to the control lever (C), then insert the control pin (D) into the control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (E).

60. Secure the shift cable bracket (F) with the nuts.






61. Install the starter (A) using a new gasket (C) , Removal and Replacement then install the harness clamp (D).

62. Connect the B terminal and BLK/WHT wire connector (E).

63. Install the dipstick (F) and radiator hose bracket (G).






64. Install the transmission breather hose (A) over the breather pipe (B) at the transmission housing, and install the hose in the clamp (C) at the dot (D) on the hose with facing out.






65. Install the power steering pump outlet line (A) with a new O-ring (B) to the pump, and secure the hose clamp (C) with the bolt.

67. Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with fluid to the upper level line.

68. Refill the transmission with the ATF. ATF Replacement

69. Install the battery base bracket and the battery base.

70. Install the air cleaner housing, the resonator, the intake air duct, and the intake manifold cover.

71. Install the battery tray, then do the battery installation. Removal and Replacement

72. Install the splash shield. Front Splash Shield Replacement

73. Install the service caps on the cowl cover.

74. Set the parking brake, run the engine at fast idle, and turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times to bleed air from the system. Recheck the fluid level, and refill if necessary.

75. Set the parking brake. Start the engine, and shift the transmission through all positions three times. Check the shift lever operation, A/T gear position indicator operation, and shift cable adjustment.

76. Place a floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight.
Tighten the ball joint mounting nuts to 88-98 N-m (9.0-10.0 kgf-m, 65-72lbf-ft). Install new cotter pins onto the castle nut.

77. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment. Service and Repair

78. Start the engine in the P or N position, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).

79. Turn off the engine, and check the ATF level. ATF Level Check

80. Road test the vehicle. A/T Road Test
