Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal)

No sound is heard from the speaker(s) (display is normal) (without navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Set the fader and balance positions to the center.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Make sure the volume is not set to the MIN level, and check for sound in all modes (AM/FM, CD, XM).

Is there sound in all modes, and is the sound normal?

YES -

System is OK at this time. Check for poor connections at the audio unit, speakers, and stereo amplifier.�

NO -

- If there is no sound in all modes, go to step 3.
- If there is no sound in AM/FM mode, go to AM or FM radio reception interference Poor AM or FM Radio Reception or Interference (Without Navigation).�
- If there is no sound in CD mode, go to the audio disc does not play Audio Disc Does Not Play (Without Navigation).�
- If there is no sound in the XM radio, go to the Poor or no sound with XM radio Poor or No Sound With XM Radio (Audio Unit Does Display XM Channels) (Without Navigation).�

3. Do the speaker check mode with self diagnostic function.

Did all speakers produce a tone?

YES -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.�

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Check the No. 8 (30 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box.

Is the fuse OK?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Replace the fuse, and recheck.�

6. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (18P) terminal No. 18 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the No. 8 (30 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box and stereo amplifier connector B (18P) terminal No. 18.�

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 9.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between stereo amplifier connector A (20P) and audio unit connector B (32P).�

9. Measure the voltage between stereo amplifier connector B (18P) terminal No. 9 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 10.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between stereo amplifier connector B (18P) terminal No. 9 and body ground (G504).�

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

11. Check the speaker(s) with no sound for any damage.

Is there any damage?

YES -

Replace the speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement, and recheck.�

NO -

Go to step 12.

12. Remove the speaker(s) that has no sound Speaker Test/Replacement, and disconnect its connector.

13. Check the speaker 2P connector for a loose or poor connection.

Reconnect the speaker connector, and recheck the symptom; is the condition still present?

YES -

Go to step 14.

NO -

Intermittent failure. Operation is normal.�

14. Test the speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement.

Is the speaker OK?

YES -

Go to step 15.

NO -

Replace the speaker(s) Speaker Test/Replacement.�

15. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

16. Do the audio unit self-diagnostic function DSP unit communication check Audio System Self-Diagnostic Function.

Is the DSP communication OK?

YES -

Go to step 17.

NO -

Replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.�

17. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

18. Reconnect the speaker connector(s).

19. Disconnect stereo amplifier connector B (18P).

20. Check for continuity between body ground and stereo amplifier connector B (18P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker(s).�

NO -

Go to step 21.

21. Disconnect the left tweeter 2P connector and the right tweeter 2P connector.

22. Measure the resistance between both pairs of speaker wires (+) and (-) at stereo amplifier connector B (18P) according to the table.













Is the resistance OK?

YES -

Go to step 23.

NO -

Repair an open or a short in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker(s).�

23. Disconnect the Driver's door speaker 2P connector and the passenger's door speaker 2P connector.

24. Connect the tweeter 2P connector terminal (+) and (-) with a jumper wire.










25. Check for continuity between both pairs of speaker wires (+) and (-) at stereo amplifier connector B (18P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 26.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire(s) between the stereo amplifier and the speaker(s).�

26. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (32P) and stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 27.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.�

27. Check for continuity between body ground and stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.�

NO -

Go to step 28.

28. Check for continuity between the terminals of stereo amplifier connector A (20P) according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

Repair a short in the wires between the audio unit and the stereo amplifier.�

NO -

substitute a known-good stereo amplifier Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original stereo amplifier Service and Repair. If the symptom is still present, Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation.�
