Poor or no sound with XM radio (Audio-Navigation unit does display XM channels) (with navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connector for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the XM radio reception in an open area. Poor reception/interference can be caused by tall buildings, mountains, or high-voltage power lines are nearby.
- If you can only tune to channel 000, 001, 174, and 247, make sure the audio-navigation unit is set to channel mode (see owner's manual), if it is set to channel mode, call XM Satellite Radio client support, and check the account activation status.
- If you replace the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver), the AcuraLink must be reactivated by Acura Client Services.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Turn on the audio system and select XM radio.

3. Check for an error message on the display.

Are there any messages displayed?

YES -

Go to error code list Audio System Error Codes.�

NO -

- With AcuraLink: Go to step 4.
- Without AcuraLink: Go to step 9.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Disconnect these items:

- Audio-Navigation unit connector D (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P)

6. Check for continuity between body ground and audio-navigation unit connector D (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 7.

7. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio-navigation unit connector D (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 8.

8. Check for continuity between AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) and audio-navigation unit connector D (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation, then reconnect all connectors, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, update the AcuraLink control unit Programming and Relearning, if it does not have the latest software, and recheck. If the software is the latest, replace the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) AcuraLink Control Unit (XM Receiver) Removal/Installation. If symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.�

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver). Replace the affected shielded harness.�

9. Disconnect these items:

- Audio-Navigation unit connector D (14P)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- XM receiver connector A (14P)

10. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector D (14P) and XM receiver connector A (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

11. Check for continuity between body ground and audio-navigation unit connector D (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 12.

12. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio-navigation connector D (14P) according to the cable.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the XM receiver. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation. If the symptom is still present, substitute a known-good XM receiver XM Receiver Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original XM receiver XM Receiver Removal/Installation.�
