Audio System Description

Overview

The audio unit acts as the processor for all audio functions. You can select the audio functions from the audio panel, the audio remote (on steering wheel), or by using the navigation voice control system. The front climate control unit display provides the current front and rear audio status. For vehicles with navigation, additional audio information is available by touching the audio button. (See the Owner's manual for more details.)

Each audio component passes its audio or audio signal to the audio unit. In addition, it communicates with the audio unit via the GA-Net bus. Any open connection in this circuit will cause audio and navigation functions to appear inoperative.

The audio unit has a built-in EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory). This memory holds the audio presets data (AM/FM radio frequency, sound settings, etc.) even when the battery is disconnected.

With the ELS and the premium sound system, a stereo amplifier unit powers the speakers.

The 6 CD changer output can be directed to the audio system.

The XM can be output to either the front or the RES (rear entertainment system). However, if the XM is playing in the front, the CD changer and Bluetooth audio cannot be used for the RES. The RES (built into the audio-navigation unit) can be used to play a CD in the rear.

A security signal is daisy-chained between the audio, RES and navigation components for integration into the vehicle's alarm system.

Speed-Sensitive volume compensation (SVC)

All audio systems are equipped with speed-sensitive volume compensation (SVC). The audio-navigation unit or audio unit receives the vehicle speed pulse (VSP) from B-CAN. The system processes the speed input and increases the navigation or audio system volume level as the vehicle speed increases to compensate for the interior noise that occurs at higher speeds. When the vehicle slows down, the volume returns to its normal level. The SVC has four settings: SVC OFF, LOW, MID, and HIGH that can be adjusted using the audio-navigation unit or audio unit. The factory default setting is MID.

To change the audio unit SVC setting, press the tune folder sound knob repeatedly until the SVC is displayed, then rotate the knob to adjust the SVC to the desired setting (SVC OFF, LOW, MID, or HIGH).

To change the audio-navigation unit SVC setting, press the AUDIO button, and then select the Sound Setup from the AUDIO MENU on the navigation display. Rotate the interface dial to select the desired setting (SVC OFF, LOW, MID, or HIGH).

HDD recording

The navigation system uses a HDD (hard disk drive) and can store music. To record music to the HDD, you must use an original CD or uncompressed CD-R files. The music must be loaded on a CD using the CD player. You cannot load music through the USB adapter or auxiliary jack.

Song By Voice(TM) (With navigation)

You can use the voice control to operate the audio system, including the Song By Voice(TM) feature. See the navigation system manual for more information.

Telematics Muting Logic

Vehicles with navigation provides voice control for the audio, the XM, the CD player, and the RES functions. The GA-Net (audio unit) communicates the voice control commands. When using the TALK/BACK or route guidance (RG) or AcuraLink, all speakers reduce the audio output and you hear the navigation instructions through the center speaker. When using HFL, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and the front speakers give the telephone sound. The RES headphones are not impacted by HFL, AcuraLink, RG (Route Guidance), or TALK/BACK playing through the front or center speakers. B-CAN bus passes the muting commands. For more information, see the navigation section. The outline of the audio interruption function is shown in the following table.

Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio allows approved Bluetooth cell phones equipped with music function to play music via a car audio system using Bluetooth technology. You can control the phone's music player remotely using the wireless connection.

- You can play music stored in your cell phone using the wireless connection*1.
- You can choose next song, previous song and resume/pause via wireless*2.

Supported Devices

- Bluetooth music phones that support AVRCP1.0/A2DP1.0.
- Bluetooth adapters for portable music devices including iPod are not supported.

NOTE:

- Availability of the functions depends on the connected phone.
- The latest support information is updated through the website www.acura.com/handsfreelink.

Pairing a Cell Phone

To pair a cell phone, refer to pairing a cell phone in the HandsFreeLink system. Once a cell phone is paired, the process does not have to be repeated for the phone.

How to Play the Bluetooth Audio

Procedure

1. Push the USB/AUX button to select Bluetooth Audio source.

NOTE:

- If you push the USB/AUX button when no cell phone is connected, NO CONNECT is displayed.
- If you see NO CONNECT when you are using the cell phone music function, check that the device is properly paired. If it is paired, the cell phone may not be compatible. See www.acura.com/handsfreelink. for more information.
- Music titles and artist names are not displayed.

1. Start playing the music in the paired cell phone.

NOTE: Depending on the cell phone, the music may start automatically, or the user may need to select headset as an audio output.

1. A user can select the next song or the previous song using the SKIP button.

1. A user can select pause and resume by selecting [RESUME/PAUSE].
