Water in Spare Tire Well

PROBLEM

A puncture hole in the melt sheet sound insulation on the floor of the spare tire well may allow water to get in.

Note: Inspect all cars in the affected VIN range, not just those that come in with this specific complaint. Inspect these cars during PDI, and affected customer cars when they are brought in for scheduled maintenance.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Cover the puncture with the Hole Seal listed under PARTS INFORMATION.

PROCEDURE

1. Remove the spare tire cover and the spare tire. Look for a hole through the melt sheet shoud insulation near the 6 o'clock position of the well.

2. If punctured, clean the area around the hole with a grease and wax remover.

3. Close up and smooth out the hole in the melt sheet as much as possible with your fingers.

4. Apply a ring of 3M Flexible Weatherstrip Adhesive (P/N 051135-08011) to the outer edge of the "sticky" side of the patch.

5. Place the patch over the hole. Apply pressure with your fingers around the outside edges to amke sure it adheres fully.

6. Install the spare tire and cover.
