Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Description and Operation

PURPOSE/OPERATION
The engine coolant temperature sensor is a temperature dependant resistor (thermistor). The resistance of the thermistor decreases as the engine coolant temperature increases.
By measuring the amount of resistance at the sensor, the engine control module can adjust the length of injector opening time required by the engine.
