Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Oil Pressure Sensor: Testing and Inspection

ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH TEST

1. Remove the YEL/RED wire from the engine oil pressure switch.
2. Check for continuity between the positive terminal and the engine (ground) with the ignition switch OFF.
- If there is continuity, go to step 3.
- If there is no continuity, replace the switch.
3. Check for continuity again, this time with the engine running.
- If there is continuity, go to step 4.
- If there is no continuity, the switch is OK.
4. Make sure engine oil level is OK, then check engine oil pressure.
- If engine oil pressure is OK, replace the switch.
- If engine oil pressure is low, check the engine oil pump and, if necessary, replace it.
