Bluetooth audio does not work (with navigation)

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Testing and Inspection.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Turn on the audio unit, and press DISC/AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.

Does it change to Bluetooth audio source?

YES -

Go to step 3.

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation System), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.�

3. Check if the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function plays.

Does the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function play normally?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the audio unit is OK at this time.�

NO -

Go to step 4.

4. Check Online at www.acura.com/handsfreelink, or cell the HFL support desk at 888-528-7876 to make sure the cell phone is compatible with the HFL system and that there are no known issues.

5. Pair, then check if the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function plays on a known-good vehicle equipped with Bluetooth audio.

Does the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function play normally?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

Defective Bluetooth device.�

6. Connect the HDS to the DLC Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).

9. Check the DTCs with the HDS.

Are there any DTCs indicated?

YES -

Repair the indicated DTCs.�

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Check for the navigation system hard error codes How to Troubleshoot the Navigation System.

Are there any DTC's related to the Display or XM systems?

YES -

Go to step 11.

NO -

Go to step 14.

11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

12. Disconnect the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

13. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit.�

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

14. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

15. Disconnect these items:

- Audio unit connector B (14P)
- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) (USA models)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (Canada models)
- Navigation display unit 28P connector
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- USB adapter unit connector A (14P)

16. Check for continuity between the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector and body ground according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit, the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) or XM receiver, the navigation display unit, USB adapter unit, and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 17.

17. Check for continuity between the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 18.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

18. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�

NO -

Go to step 19.

19. Reconnect the audio unit connector B (14P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

21. Check if the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function plays.

Does the cell phone's Bluetooth audio function play normally?

YES -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver), the XM receiver, or the navigation display unit.�

NO -

Go to step 22.

22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

23. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

24. Reconnect the AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) or XM receiver A (14P), the navigation display unit 28P connector, USB adapter unit connector A (14P), and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.

25. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

26. Check the operation of the reconnected unit.

Is the system normal?

YES -

Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit.�

NO -

Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation System), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit.�
