Audio System Description

Overview

There are two audio systems available for the RDX:

- The premium audio system is on vehicles without navigation. It includes six speakers, a subwoofer, and an XM receiver.
- The ELS audio system is available on vehicles with navigation. It includes surround sound with nine speakers (the same six that are available on the premium audio system, plus one in each D pillar and in the middle of the front dash), a subwoofer, and AcuraLink control unit (HIP/XM receiver).

The audio unit acts as the processor for all audio functions. You can select the audio functions from the front panel, the audio remote (on the steering wheel), or by using the navigation voice control system. The audio display provides the current front audio status. For vehicles with the navigation option, additional audio information is available by touching the audio button. (See the owner's manual for more details.)

Each audio component passes its audio signal to the audio unit. In addition, it communicates with the audio unit via the GA-Net bus. Any open connection in this circuit will cause audio and navigation functions to appear inoperative.

The audio unit has a built-in EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory). This memory holds the audio preset data (AM/FM radio frequency, sound settings, etc.) even when the battery is disconnected.

With the ELS and the premium audio system, a stereo amplifier powers the speakers.

The 6DVD (6CD) changer output can be directed to the audio unit.

The XM radio plays through the audio unit.

A security signal is daisy-chained between the audio and navigation components and integrated into the vehicle's security system.

Speed - sensitive volume compensation (SVC)

The audio system is equipped with speed-sensitive volume compensation (SVC). The audio unit receives the vehicle speed pulse (VSP) from the PCM. The system processes the speed input and increases the navigation or audio system volume level as the vehicle speed increases to compensate for the various interior noise that occurs at higher speeds. When the vehicle slows down, the volume returns to its normal level. The SVC has four settings: SVC OFF, LOW, MID and HIGH that can be adjusted using the audio unit. The SVC comes from the factory with the MID set as the default (See Owner's Manual for more information).

- ELS audio system
To change the audio unit SVC setting, press the AUDIO button, and then select the SOUND displayed on the audio-HVAC sub display.

- Premium audio system
To change the audio unit SVC setting, press the SOUND button repeatedly until the SVC is displayed, rotate the PWR knob to adjust the SVC to the desired setting (SVC OFF, SVC LOW, SVC MID, SVC HIGH).

Muting Logic

The optional navigation system provides voice control for the audio, the XM, and the CD player. Voice control commands are communicated through the GA-Net (audio unit). When using the navigation TALK/BACK or route guidance (RG), the center speaker is muted and you hear the navigation instructions through the front speakers. When using the HFL/AcuraLink, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and the front speakers give the telephone sound. When using the HFL/AcuraLink and RG (Route Guidance) or the navigation TALK/BACK, the center speaker, the rear speakers, and the subwoofer are muted and you hear the telephone sound and navigation instructions through the front speakers. Muting commands are passed on the GA-Net bus. For more information, see the navigation section. The outline of the audio interruption function is shown in the following table.

USB Adapter

The audio unit can play digital music from portable audio players, USB drivers, etc. When the device is plugged into the USB adapter. The audio unit uses the GA-Net to allow you to control the device from the audio unit when searching and playing the files. Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. please see the owner's manual for more information.

GA-Net Bus Configuration

The GA-Net bus passes audio and navigation commands throughout the navigation and audio components. These commands include navigation touch screen and hard button signals, audio/XM selections by voice, and XM station and music title names. Because the entire bus is "daisy chained" between components (see diagram), any open or short in the GA-Net bus harness will cause any or all of these functions to become inoperative. The addition of any audio accessory must maintain the continuity of the GA-Net bus by installing the Y cable included with the accessory kit.

Anti-theft Feature

The audio unit has a coded theft protection circuit. Make sure you have the anti-theft security code before:

- Disconnecting the 12 volt battery.

- Disconnecting the audio unit connector A (17P).

- Removing the No. 23 (10 A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

When the audio unit is reconnected to the power and the ignition switch is turned to ON (II), "CODE" is displayed. Then, enter the 5-digit anti-theft security code.

When replacing the audio unit, be sure to give the client the new anti-theft security code.

Bluetooth Audio

Bluetooth audio allows approved Bluetooth cell phones equipped with the music function to play music via a car audio system using Bluetooth technology.

- You can play music in your device via wireless connection. *1

- You can choose next song, previous song and resume/pause via wireless. *2

Supported Devices

- Bluetooth music phones that support AVRCP1.0/A2DP1.0.

- Bluetooth adapters for portable music devices including iPod are not supported.

NOTE:

- Availability of the functions depends on the connected device.

Pairing a cell phone

To pair a cell phone, refer to paring a cell phone in the HandsFreeLink system Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview. Once a cell phone is paired, process does not have to be repeated for the phone.
