SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 81-61, 81-62
DTC 81-61:
No Signal From the ODS Unit
DTC 81-62:
Incorrect Data From the ODS Unit
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software SRS Unit Update, and retest.
1. Make sure nothing is on the front passenger's seat.
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode, then wait for 10 seconds.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 81-61 or 81-62 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
6. Check the connection between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) and the ODS unit (B).
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 7.
NO -
Repair the poor connection, then clear the DTC. If DTC 81-61 or 81-62 is still present, go to step 7.
7. Check the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Replace the fuse, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse circuit (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness).
8. Disconnect the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) from the ODS unit (B).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
10. Measure the voltage between front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Open in the harness between the No. 5 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box and the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 1 (dashboard wire harness, SRS floor wire harness, or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
12. Measure the resistance between body ground and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminals No. 12. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
Open in the SRS floor wire harness, the front passenger's seat wire harness, poor connection at the ground (G702) Harness Locations or poor connection at the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector, and the ODS unit. Check the connectors; if the connection is OK, replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
13. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
14. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit Service and Repair.
15. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be an open circuit or at least 1 MOhms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 16.
NO -
Short to ground in the SRS floor wire harness or the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
16. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.
17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode.
18. Measure the voltage between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and body ground. There should be less than 0.2 V.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Go to step 19.
NO -
Short to power in the SRS floor wire harness or the front seat passenger's seat wire harness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), or press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
20. Measure the resistance between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7. There should be less than 1.0 Ohms.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES -
Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit ODS Unit Replacement, then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit SRS Unit Replacement.
NO -
Open in the harness between SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 1 and front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector terminal No. 7 (SRS floor wire harness or front passenger's seat wire harness); replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
