Engine Removal




Engine Removal

Special Tools Required

- Universal lifting eyelet 07AAK-SNAA120
- Engine hanger adapter VSB02C000015*
- Engine support hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256*
- Front subframe adapter VSB02C000016*
*: Available through the Acura Tool and Equipment Program, 888-424-6857

NOTE:

- Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

- To avoid damaging the wiring and terminals, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.

- Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.

1. Secure the hood in the wide open position (support rod in the lower hole).

2. Relieve the fuel pressure. Service and Repair

3. Do the battery removal procedure. Removal and Replacement

4. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Service and Repair

5. Remove the strut brace. Frame Brace Replacement






6. Remove the harness clamps (A).

7. Disconnect the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM) connectors (B).

8. Remove the ECM/PCM bracket assembly (C).






9. Remove the battery cables (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box.

10. Remove the harness clamps (B).

11. Disconnect the starter subharness connector (C), then remove the connector from the bracket.

12. Disconnect the engine wire harness connector (D).






13. Disconnect the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose (B).






14. Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B). Fuel Line/Quick-Connect Fitting Removal

15. M/T model: Remove the shift cable. Manual Transmission Removal Do not bend the cables excessively.

16. M/T model: Remove the clutch slave cylinder, and the clutch line bracket mounting bolt. Manual Transmission Removal

17. Remove the drive belt. Service and Repair

18. Remove the radiator cap.

19. Raise the vehicle on the lift.

20. Remove the front wheels.






21. Remove the splash shield.

22. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, and drain the engine coolant. Service and Repair

23. Drain the engine oil. Service and Repair

24. Drain the transmission fluid:
- Manual transmission Service and Repair

- Automatic transmission ATF Replacement





25. Remove exhaust pipe A.

26. A/T model: Remove the shift cable. Service and Repair Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

27. Remove the damper fork. Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation

28. Separate the knuckles from the lower arms. Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation

29. Remove the driveshafts. Driveshaft Removal Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil. Tie a plastic bags over the driveshaft ends.






30. Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), then remove the A/C compressor (B) without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.

31. Lower the vehicle on the lift.






32. Remove the bolts securing the steering gearbox.






33. A/T model: Disconnect the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses, then plug the ATF cooler hoses and the lines.






34. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A) and the heater hoses (B).

35. Clean any dirt off the quick connector, the thermostat cover, and the lower radiator hose Pull out the lock by hand, then wiggle the quick connector loose, and remove it from the thermostat cover. Do not use any tools to remove the quick connector.. Thermostat Replacement






36. Remove the ignition coil cover (A) and the brake booster vacuum line mounting bolts (B).






37. Attach the engine hanger adapter (VSB02C000015) to the threaded hole in the cylinder head.

38. Remove the grille cover. Front Grille Cover Replacement






39. Install the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256), then attach the hook to the slotted hole in the engine hanger adapter. Tighten the wing nut (A) by hand to lift and support the engine/transmission.






40. Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and remove the front engine mount stop (B), then remove the front engine mount bolt (C).

41. A/T model: Remove the ATF cooler line mounting bolts (D).






42. M/T model: Remove the rear engine mount.






43. A/T model: Remove the rear engine mount (A), then remove the rear engine mount upper bracket (B).

44. Raise the vehicle on the lift.






45. Remove the nuts securing the lower transmission mount.






46. '09 model: Remove the ground cable (A) from the front subframe.






47. '10 model: Disconnect the ground cable connector at the front of the front subframe.






48. Remove the front subframe middle mounts.






49. Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by hanging the belt (A) over the front of the subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).

50. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.






51. Remove the front subframe (A), the stiffeners (B), and the steering gearbox washers (C).

52. Lower the vehicle on the lift.






53. Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the side engine mount bracket (B).






54. Install the universal lifting eyelet (A) with a 15 mm spacer (B).






55. Attach a chain hoist (A) to the universal lifting eyelet (B), and the transmission hook (C), then lift the engine/ transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist, and remove the engine support hanger.






56. Remove the ground cables (A), then remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts (B).
NOTE: Do not remove the TORX bolt (C) from the upper transmission mount. If the TORX bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly.

57. Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring.

58. Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (6 in). Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way.

59. Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transmission.

60. Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle.

M/T model





A/T model
