Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Illumination Circuit Troubleshooting

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS component locations Locations and the precautions and procedures Service and Repair before doing repair or service.

1. Remove the driver's airbag. Driver's Airbag Replacement

2. Disconnect the paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), and turn the combination light switch to the SMALL (PARKING) position.

4. Measure the voltage between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 8.

NO - Go to step 5.






5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and turn the combination light switch to the OFF position.

6. Check the No. 6 (7.5 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?
YES - Repair open in the wire between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 1 and the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

NO - Go to step 7.


7. Check for continuity between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 1 and body ground.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 1 and the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box.

NO - Install a new No. 6 (7.5 A) fuse in the passenger's under-dash fuse/relay box, then go to step 4.






8. Remove the gauge control module connector. Service and Repair

9. Check for continuity between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 2 and gauge control module 32P connector terminal No. 2.

Is there continuity?
YES - Check the illumination control circuit in the gauge control module self-diagnostic function. Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes If the test results are OK, replace the paddle shifter - (downshift switch). Paddle Shifter + (Upshift Switch) or Paddle Shifter - (Downshift Switch) Replacement

NO - Repair open in the wire between paddle shifter - (downshift switch) connector terminal No. 2 and the gauge control module.
