HandsFreeLink System Symptom Troubleshooting - Bluetooth audio does not work
Bluetooth audio does not work (with navigation)
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting, refer to General Troubleshooting Information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview to make sure the phone is compatible and configured correctly. You can also check online at www.acura.com/handsfreelink, or call the HFL support desk at 888-528-7876.
- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio functions normally.
- Make sure the cell phone is properly paired.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Turn on the audio-navigation unit, and press USB/AUX button to select Bluetooth audio source.
Does it change to Bluetooth Audio source?
YES -
Go to step 3.
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit (including the HDD) Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.�
3. Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio can be played on the audio system.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the audio-navigation unit is OK at this time.�
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Go to www.acura.com/handsfreelink and make sure the phone is compatible for Bluetooth audio and properly configured. Once the issue is confirmed, call 888-528-7876 to make sure there are no known issues for the cell phone.
5. Pair the cell phone to a known-good vehicle and check if you can play music using Bluetooth audio.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
The cell phone is faulty or not compatible with Bluetooth audio.�
6. Connect the HDS to the DLC. Check for HFL DTCs.
Are there any DTCs indicated?
YES -
Go to HFL DTC troubleshooting.�
NO -
Go to step 7.
7. Check for the navigation system hard error codes.
Are there any navigation DTC's related to the Display systems?
YES -
Go to step 8.
NO -
Go to step 11.
8. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
9. Disconnect audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
10. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
12. Disconnect these items:
- Audio-Navigation unit connector B (24P)
- Navigation display unit 28P connector
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
13. Check for continuity between body ground and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit, the navigation display unit, and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 14.
14. Check for continuity between audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
There is an open in the wire(s) between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
15. Check for continuity between the terminals of the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector according to the table.
Is there continuity between any of the terminals?
YES -
There is a short in the wires between the audio-navigation unit and the HandsFreeLink control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.�
NO -
Go to step 16.
16. Reconnect audio-navigation unit connector B (24P) and the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
18. Check if the cell phone with Bluetooth audio can be played.
Does the Bluetooth audio play?
YES -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections at the navigation display unit.�
NO -
Go to step 19.
19. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
20. Disconnect the HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector.
21. Reconnect the navigation display unit 28P connector.
22. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
23. Check the operation of the navigation display unit.
Is the system normal?
YES -
Substitute a known-good HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original HandsFreeLink control unit Service and Repair.�
NO -
Substitute a known-good audio-navigation unit (including the HDD) Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio-navigation unit Audio-Navigation Unit Removal/Installation.�
