Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB device does not function

USB device does not function

NOTE:

- Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
- Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.
- Check the USB device requirement:
- Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port
- At least 256 MB of memory.
- Support MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the iTunes) files, DRM files are not supported

- Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the clients USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result that USB devices may work in newer vehicles, but not in order vehicles of the same model.
- If UNSUPPORTED appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Turn on the audio system.

3. Press the AUX button, and check if change to USB mode.

NOTE: Do not connect the USB device.

Is USB NO DATA displayed in the audio-HVAC display?

YES -

Go to step 4.

NO -

Go to step 16.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Connect the client's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.

Is the USB device working properly in the known-good vehicle?

YES -

Go to step 6.

NO -

If the display panel displays UNSUPPORTED, the USB device may not be unsupported or is defective. If the display panel displays USB NO MUSIC, the USB device may have no music files or wrong type music files are on the device. See the Owner's Manual for details on USB device requirements and approved file types.

6. On the client's vehicle, connect the client's USB device to the USB port.

7. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

8. Turn on the audio system.

9. Check the USB device operation in the client's vehicle.

Does the USB device work properly in the client's vehicle?

YES -

The system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB port and USB adapter for wear.

NO -

Go to step 10.

10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

11. On the client's vehicle, remove the USB device.

12. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector B (5P).

13. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector B (5P) and the USB port 5P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement, then recheck.

NO -

Go to step 14.

14. Disconnect the USB adapter 5P connector.

15. Check for continuity between the USB adapter 5P connector and the USB port 5P connector according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the USB adapter. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Replace the USB adapter, then recheck.

16. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

17. Disconnect USB adapter control unit connector A (14P).

18. Measure the voltage between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Go to step 20.

NO -

Go to step 19.

19. Measure the voltage between audio unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 1 and body ground.





Is there battery voltage?

YES -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit.

NO -

- With ELS audio: Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation System), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation System).
- With premium audio: Substitute a known-good audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original audio unit Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System).

20. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

21. Measure the voltage between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 11 and body ground.





Is there less than 0.2 V?

YES -

Go to step 22.

NO -

Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit.

22. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

23. Disconnect these connectors:

- Audio unit connector B (14P)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM)

24. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and body ground.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Repair a short to body ground in the wire between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2 and audio unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 2.

NO -

Go to step 25.

25. Check for continuity between audio unit connector B (14P) terminal No. 2 and USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) terminal No. 2.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 26.

NO -

Repair an open in the wire between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit.

26. Check for continuity between USB adapter control unit connector A (14P) and audio unit connector B (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 27.

NO -

There is an open in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

27. Disconnect these connectors:

- AcuraLink control unit (XM receiver) connector A (32P) (with AcuraLink)
- XM receiver connector A (14P) (with XM)
- HandsFreeLink control unit 28P connector
- Navigation display unit 28P connector (with navigation)

28. Check for continuity between body ground and audio unit connector B (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity?

YES -

There is a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the audio unit and the USB adapter control unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Go to step 29.

29. Check for continuity between the terminals of audio unit connector B (14P) according to the table.









Is there continuity between any of the terminals?

YES -

There is a short in the wire(s) between the USB adapter control unit and the audio unit. Replace the affected shielded harness.

NO -

Substitute a known-good USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement, and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original USB adapter control unit USB Adapter Control Unit Replacement. If the symptom is still present, replace the audio unit (with ELS audio) Audio Unit Removal/Installation (With Navigation System), (with premium audio) Audio Unit Removal/Installation (Without Navigation System).
