A/T Intermediary Shaft Disassembly, Inspection, and Reassembly

1. Remove the 26.5 mm washer, the snap ring, the cotter retainer, and the 19.8 mm cotters from the intermediary shaft.





2. Remove the intermediary shaft 4th gear using a press A/T Intermediary Shaft 4th Gear Removal, and disassemble the intermediary shaft and gears.

3. Inspect the bearings for galling and rough movement.

4. Check the shaft bearing surfaces for scoring and excessive wear, and check the shaft splines for excessive wear and damage.

5. Check the intermediary shaft 3rd gear axial clearance A/T Intermediary Shaft 3rd Gear Axial Clearance Inspection, and the intermediary shaft installation height A/T Intermediary Shaft Installation Height Inspection/Adjustment.

6. Before installing the O-rings, wrap the shaft splines with tape to prevent damage to the O-rings.

7. Lubricate all parts with ATF, and reassemble the shaft and gears.

8. Install the press-fitted intermediary shaft 4th gear in the direction shown using the driver handle (40 mm I.D.) and a press A/T Intermediary Shaft 4th Gear Installation.

9. Remove the sealing rings from the intermediary shaft, and replace that with new sealing rings when reassembling the intermediary shaft.
