Distributor: Service and Repair


1. Remove distributor cap.
2. Rotate engine until the:
a. Rotor points toward notch on distributor housing,

Cam Sprocket Timing Mark:





b. Mark on the camshaft gear aligns with the top edge of the valve cover flange,
c. Flywheel TDC mark aligns with pointer in the bellhousing.
3. Disconnect battery ground cable and disconnect vacuum hoses and wiring harness connectors to distributor.
4. Remove distributor hold-down bolt and retainer, and remove distributor.
5. If crankshaft position has been disturbed with distributor removed, rotate engine until camshaft and crankshaft marks are aligned as in step 2.
6. Align oil pump drive lug parallel to crankshaft.
7. Install distributor so that rotor tip is aligned with mark on housing when distributor is fully seated.
8. Install hold-down retainer and bolt (install bolt only finger tight so that the distributor can be moved to adjust the timing).
9. Connect vacuum lines and electrical connector, and distributor cap.
10. Set ignition timing, and tighten the distributor hold-down bolt.
